Sr. Software Engineer in Test

As we continue to expand our operations, we are seeking a talented Software Engineer in Test to join our dynamic team in Rotterdam. 

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer or Software Development Engineer in Test who is passionate about software quality, possesses exceptional coding skills, and is well-versed in software development best practices. This role is ideal for a motivated professional eager to make the jump to the next level in their career by taking on greater responsibility and playing a pivotal role in delivering robust, high-quality software solutions. 

 

Your role   

You are part of a newly established team, which will focus on increasing the overall quality of our engineering practices and code bases. In a consultant-like role, you will help teams resolve quality issues, implement best practices and coach engineers individually.  

Your primary responsibilities (80% of your time) includes mentoring software engineers to adopt an engineering process that leads to a robust, high-quality codebase, e.g.,by conducting code reviews and significantly enhancing unit and integration test coverage.. 

You will play a crucial role in expanding unit, integration, and end-to-end (e2e) test coverage using tools such as PHPUnit, Symfony Panther, PHPStan, Playwright, and Postman, ensuring consistently reliable and stable software releases. 

Additionally (20% of your time), you collaborate with Product Managers and Software Development Managers to establish quality processes and comprehensive documentation. Your input will be essential in creating structured test plans and ensuring thorough software validation across the entire development lifecycle. 

 

Your core responsibilities 

  • Act as a quality advocate and mentor, conducting thorough code reviews to ensure testability andreliability, addressing gaps in test coverage and quality metrics, and adherence to best practices.
  • Define, implement, and oversee comprehensive test strategies and structured test plans, including including functional, performance, regression, exploratory and accessibility/compliance testing,  to achieve consistently high-quality software releases.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Development Managers to establish and refine quality processes, documentation, and validation standards.
  • Establish monitoring and reporting mechanisms, tracking test coverage, defects, and overall software quality metrics.
  • Work closely with infrastructure teams to integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.

 

What You Bring to the Team

  • 5+ years of experience in software development and/or test automation. 
  • Proficiency in PHP, ideally also experience with JavaScript/TypeScript 
  • Strong knowledge of testing methodologies (unit, integration, e2e, functional, regression) and applications in CI/CD pipelines 
  • Ability to conduct thorough code reviews and mentor engineers. 
  • Experience establishing quality monitoring and reporting mechanisms. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills. 
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities. 
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, with a ‘can-do’ attitude. 
  • Fluency in English, additional languages (Dutch, French, German) a plus.
