Your role as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)

As a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) you will shape and develop the way our product teams work with our infrastructure platform and enable the flywheel effects that will accelerate the product teams developing on it.
You will have the autonomy to – together with your team – decide on which components and systems are needed to deliver an infrastructure platform that provides the best developer experience for the product teams. While closely collaborating with the product teams, you are involved in rapid iterations and improvements to further the reliability, scalability, and performance of our cutting-edge services landscape and breaking any dev-ops barriers you come across. You will support building a high-traffic/high-load platform on which millions of transactions take place each month and is doubling each year.
Besides designing and implementing this developer experience platform, you’ll have many opportunities to flex your creativity and expertise. From implementing systems to deploying observability, or even stretching to other parts of the organization to improve their interaction with our platform.
Moreover, you’ll work closely with both front-end and back-end product teams as well as the architects. Together, you’ll understand, implement and support the needs of our products and value streams, contributing directly to our company’s innovative endeavors.

 

Your core responsibilities are

• You will collaborate on designing, implementing and maintaining the infrastructure platform
• You will work closely with software engineers to guide and provide them with best practices or help, support and implement new scalable solutions
• You will play an important role in automating traditional admin work, to make more time for innovation and efficiency
• You create and maintain standards (sane defaults) like base images or CI/CD pipelines and dashboards that product teams can use
• You will maintain and improve our current infrastructure and drive the transition to containers.

• All employees in the department cover Incident management based on a 24/7 rotation (On-call rotation)

 

You recognize yourself in

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
• 4+ years of working experience in software or as a Platform Engineer /SRE, preferably within a SaaS environment
• Robust analytical + critical thinking skills
• Solid problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Effective communication skills in a diverse international environment
• Ability to collaborate with both infrastructure engineering as well as software engineering
• Strong drive for automation, recognizing, analyzing and converting manual processes to automated ones
• Experience in containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Docker Swarm, k8s etc.)
• Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines, observability (from logging to dashboards to alerting)
• Preferably you are comfortable with PHP 7+, ideally Symfony
• You have affinity for security and/or performance optimizations.

• Social team player that is willing to back-up other team member’s work, even when outside the comfort zone
• You are willing to work at the office in Rotterdam for 3 days a week
