Core values in action – a new era begins
On April 3rd, something special happened at Last Mile Solutions.
Over 130 of us gathered at Room Mate Bruno in Rotterdam — not just to meet, but to mark the beginning of a new era.
Employees weren’t given many details about the event in advance, just that they would be engaging in a fun and hands-on challenge. But what unfolded was more than a team-building exercise. It was a living, breathing introduction of our new company values — and a powerful reminder of what makes Last Mile Solutions not just a workplace, but a purpose-driven company. |On April 3rd, something special happened at Last Mile Solutions.

Bringing our values to life
As a company, we’re on a mission to simplify the energy transition — turning complex energy systems into valuable, sustainable solutions via our platform. Our new values reflect how we do this together, every day. But instead of revealing them in a presentation or company email, we chose to experience them first.
That’s where the LEGO came in.
The challenge: build the future together (with LEGO!)
We formed 20 teams, and each were given the same creative challenge: build a physical representation of a solution to simplify the energy transition.
With simple instructions, very little guidance, just LEGO bricks and a few surprise twists and turns — like swapping team members, losing 50% of the pieces midway, or reverse-engineering what we had already built. Each twist was secretly aligned with one of our three new core values.
We then worked to connect all the 20 LEGO sets into one collective solution as a team dubbed the “masterpiece”. You can decide whether it is or not!
We then had a reflection section where teams added keywords to boards to describe how they interacted and felt when they were doing the task. Collaboration, communication, compromise, delegation, reliability, fun and lots more came up again and again. It was great to see an overlap with our new core values. |

Our new 3 core values
After all the building, and the collaborative “masterpiece” we built together, it was time for the big reveal of our new company values. Our co-founders and longest serving employees Eric van Voorden & Johan Brouwer would reveal the Compass to all colleagues.|

After all the building, and the collaborative “masterpiece” we built together, it was time for the big reveal of our new company values. Our co-founders and longest serving employees Eric van Voorden & Johan Brouwer would reveal the Compass with our newest employee Mecheale Tsegay, who joined only 2 days before. Everyone, no matter how long they’ve worked at Last Mile Solutions, represents and reflects our values. ||
Exploring with purpose
We became industry leaders by setting our own path. Growth comes with curiosity and dedication to exploring all possibilities around us. Embracing the unknown with an open mind leads us to transform complex energy systems into impactful solutions for our Partners.|

Empowering connections
Just like a network, Last Mile Solutions is made up of individuals that work seamlessly together. Every colleague, Partner, interaction, and energy transaction powers this interconnected ecosystem. With individual expertise, continuous collaboration, and collective thinking we drive the energy transition forward. |

Owning our impact
We understand that our daily choices have a significant impact on the ecosystem we are a part of. As colleagues we can count on each other, and others can count on us to make responsible decisions. This is how we can be the reliable foundation that keeps our Partners growing. |

What we learned
In the final part of the day, we reflected on the experience and how these behaviors show up in our day-to-day work. People shared stories about collaboration, moments of unexpected leadership, and how it feels good to celebrate the small wins together.
Amir, Sales Manager DACH said: “It’s the second time I joined a value session in my career, and the big difference is that we didn’t only talk today, we also worked together. I really enjoyed that part.”
Another team said: “Going to a new spot away from the office and experiencing our new values before they were revealed was a pretty great way to make them stick!”
We then sat down together to enjoy lunch and reflect on what the new values meant to us from different teams, backgrounds and cultures.
A new era begins…
The LEGO collections sparked creativity, reflection, and connection. And now, in the spirit of impact and responsibility, the bricks will be donated to a local children’s charity — passing on a small bit of our energy to those who need it most.
With these values now officially part of who we are, we’re excited for what comes next. Whether we’re launching a new product, supporting a Partner, or collaborating across our key countries: Exploring with purpose, empowering connections, and owning our impact will guide every decision we make as individuals and a team. |
