EDI by D’Ieteren

Accelerating from internal combustion to the electric powertrain D’Ieteren, the largest car distributor in Belgium, has been getting serious about transitioning to electric driving in recent years. The Belgian market is driving demand for electric models, so perhaps it’s no surprise that D’Ieteren has taken on the role of e-Mobility Service Provider (e-MSP) and Charge Point Operator (CPO). These roles fit well with a company that’s been active in the automotive industry for years and is now seizing the opportunity to remain a significant player in the disruptive automotive market.

In order to maximize its chances of success, D’Ieteren founded EDI (ElectricbyDieteren) in 2019. It offers individuals and companies smart charging solutions in the form of charging stations for home or work and access to the largest network of public charging stations across 25 European countries. Streamlining the process was essential, which is why D’Ieteren decided to partner Last Mile Solutions.

Market leaders in Belgium

D’Ieteren, which was founded in 1805 and is still a family business, is well known in Belgium. It has 21% of the country’s market share and more than 1.2 million cars on the road. The activities of this organization are split into three parts: D’Ieteren Auto, Belron and Molskine. Last year these divisions were joined by EDI.

Strategic collaboration

EDI has got off to a flying start, thanks in part to the support of Last Mile Solutions and its full-service, independent, white label e-Mobility platform. This platform offers D’Ieteren the opportunity to offer a large international charging network to its customers, to make automatic reimbursement between company and employee, and to facilitate ambitious growth targets. The platform’s unlimited hardware connectivity features were an additional major factor.
